Public outcry brings resolutions involving flag-folding ceremony, monument cap

Officials with the Veterans Administration (VA) have clarified a directive limiting the use of a religious recitation at flag-folding ceremonies during military funerals. And a replica of the cap on the Washington Monument will be rebuilt so a God-honoring phrase is visible. The founder of the American Family Association (AFA) credits public outcry in both cases.

Last month, a senior VA official told directors of the agency's 125 cemeteries not to distribute or post non-government handouts on "The Meaning of Each Fold of an Honor Guard Funeral Flag." The memo also said the handout should not be recited at graveside services by cemetery workers or by VA-sponsored volunteer honor guards. The recitations include references to "the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" and to "the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost."

Public outcry was swift, with more than 200,000 emails sent to the VA. Now a VA spokesperson says volunteer honor guards may recite any text requested by next of kin.

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech on the House floor this morning in praise of Indiana House Minority Leader Brian Bosma for his leadership and efforts to allow the acknowledgement of God in the Indiana State House:

"Since the American founding, acknowledging God has been at the center of the American experience. Today, for example, Congress opened our day in prayer. Now thanks to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Indiana General Assembly can open in prayer again.

"In November 2005, U.S. District Judge David Hamilton ruled that opening prayers in the Indiana House of Representatives could not mention Jesus or endorse a particular religion. Then House Speaker Brian Bosma appealed the decision and yesterday in a two-to-one opinion, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court overruled that decision. .

"I commend the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and I particularly rise to commend the tenacious and principled leadership of Republican Minority Leader Brian Bosma. Because of his efforts, Hoosiers can continue our long tradition of acknowledging God in the public square and in the well of the people's State House."

Pray For Abortion Providers

Sister Diane Carollo, Director of the Archdiocesan Office for Pro-Life Ministry, has invited all parishes to join in a new effort to support the cause of life. In a letter to all pastors, Sister Diane writes:

"Abortion requires more than a legal or constitutional fix. Abortion is primarily a spiritual problem that must be addressed. The spiritual remedy for abortion is, of course, conversion, repentance and healing through Christ. Everyone associated with the sin of abortion, including abortionists and those who conspire against life in organizations such as Planned Parenthood, must be embraced by our prayers that flow from Christian charity. We must desire that our neighbors, even those who are pro-abortion, be brought to eternal life in God."

In Christian charity we pray for all of God's people. Where there is darkness we pray for light.

House Speaker Brian Bosma vs ACLU: Bosma 1, ACLU 0

No Need For Indiana Legislature to Censor Opening Prayers !!

This just in from Chicago: The US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has thrown out the lawsuit brought by the ACLU against former Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma for allowing opening prayers before legislative sessions without censoring what a minister or legislator says. The lawsuit specifically targeted prayers which mentioned the name of Christ, or ended "in Jesus name."

AFA of Indiana believes that House Speaker Pat Bauer and Senate President David Long should immediately remove any restrictions on the freedom of speech of its members and invited ministers by allowing them to pray according to the dictates of their own conscience and faith traditions, just as has been traditional practice for nearly 200 years.

Federal government bans flag-folding recitations following one complaint

It is time for Christians to say enough is enough!

In the latest attack on Christianity, the U.S. government has banned the flag-folding recitations at all 125 national cemeteries. The banning came as the result of one complaint! The situation is similar to that in which one person removed prayer from schools.

This article from The Associated Press explains the situation:

Complaints about religious content have led to a ban on flag-folding recitations by Veterans Administration employees and volunteers at all national cemeteries.

At thousands of military burials, VA volunteers have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of each fold to survivors. The 11th fold glorifies "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” The 12th glorifies "God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost."

Citing a need for uniformity, the National Cemetery Administration has prohibited unpaid VA volunteers as well as employees from conducting the recital at all 125 national cemeteries.

American Legion attorney Rees Lloyd calls it "another attempt by secularist fanatics to cleanse any reference to God."

Following one complaint, the Veterans Administration has made anti-Christian bigotry the law of the land. The U.S. government has bowed to pressure from one radical anti-Christian secularist. Allowed to stand, the action by the Veterans Administration, in essence, means that anti-Christian bigotry is now the accepted and approved law of the land.

Hillary Clinton Skips Medal Of Honor Ceremony To Campaign In California

Clinton chose to be in California on a campaign trip instead of in a ceremony this week at which President Bush posthumously awarded the nation's highest military honor to Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy of New York.

The question came from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House. He asked: "When the president posthumously awarded our nation's highest military honor to Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy of New York, Sen. [Charles] Schumer of New York was present. But New York's other U.S. senator was absent, 'campaigning in California,' her office explained. And my question: Does the White House believe that any political campaigning justified this New York candidate for … commander-in-chief of our armed forces being absent from this ceremony for a killed-in-action U.S. Navy hero?"

Medjugorje: June 15, 1995

The American pilot Scott O'Grady, whose airplane had been shot down over Bosnia, tells the press that he owed his life to the Blessed Mother of Medjugorje who appeared to him during his 6 days of hiding in the western region of Banja Luka, before being rescued.

That's funny, but I don't remember reading anything about that in the press...

Abortion Destroys Peace

Imagine waking up in the morning to the newspapers headlines, "Nine American cities completely wiped out! No one left alive in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Philladelphia, Detroit, St. Louis or Atlanta."

We saw America's reaction to 9/11 and its aftermath. It's hard to imagine how angry American's would be if these headlines were true. Men, women and children would be lining up to join the armed forces to strike back at the enemy. What enemy is that? Is it China, Afghanistan, or Iraq? What massive firepower must the enemy have employed to inflict such destruction, atomic bombs, biological warfare or perhaps nerve agents? It was none of these. It was abortion.

As of 1996, Americans had slaughtered 32 million innocents, the equivalent of nine major U.S. cities.

Mother Teresa said that If we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people that killing is wrong? After all, any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people love, but to use whatever violence necessary to get what they want.

Sure, everyone's concerned for the children of Indiana and Africa, where thousands of children are dying of hunger and disease every day. Many people are concerned with the violence in our streets and classrooms as well. These concerns are good, but all too often these same people aren't the least bit concerned by those being killed by the deliberate decisions of their own mothers. This is the greatest destroyer of peace today - abortion - which brings people to such blindness.

Does abortion destroy peace and cause blindness toward the sick, the hungry and the naked? Of course it does, when life is regarded so lightly and its disposal becomes so trivial, so clinical, so easy. After all, why should people or nations regard human life as noble or dignified if abortion flourishes? Why agonize over indiscriminate deaths in Bosnia when babies are being killed far more efficiently and out of sight of TV cameras?

Just imagine, the populations of all those major cities combined - all dead. Who is left to cry?

"When Freedom Gets an Up or Down Vote in the People's House, FreedomAlways Wins"

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech on the House floor this morning announcing the launch of a discharge petition to bring the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the floor of the U.S. House. The Broadcaster Freedom Act would prevent the Federal Communications Commission from implementing the Fairness Doctrine without and act of Congress.

"The time has come to do away with the Fairness Doctrine once and for all.

"While June saw 309 Members of this House vote for an amendment to ban the Fairness Doctrine for the next fiscal year, more must be done to ensure that this archaic regulation of the airwaves of America can never return.

"The Broadcaster Freedom Act would ensure that no future president could regulate the airwaves of America without an act of Congress but it hasyet to be scheduled for a vote.

"Moments ago, along with the Republican Leadership and Congressman Greg Walden, I filed a discharge petition on the Broadcaster Freedom Act.

"The American people should know that if 218 Members of Congress sign this petition, we can demand an up-or-down vote on legislation that would keep the Fairness Doctrine from ever coming back.

"To my colleagues in Congress I respectfully say: 'If you oppose the Fairness Doctrine, sign the petition. If you cherish the dynamic national asset that is American talk radio, sign the petition. If you simply believe that broadcast freedom deserves an up or down vote on the floor of the People's House, sign the petition.'

"If 218 Members of Congress will sign the Discharge Petition on H.R.2905, The Broadcaster Freedom Act will come to the floor and it will pass...because, as we witnessed in yesterday's vote on the Free Flow of Information Act, when freedom gets an up or down vote in the People's House, freedom always wins.

"I urge all my colleagues, but especially those who supported broadcast freedom earlier this year, to sign the Discharge Petition for H.R. 2905 and bring the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the floor of this Congress."

Mike Pence: Free Flow of Information Act

Thank you for praying.

Mike's Media Shield bill, Free Flow of Information Act, which protects reporters from having to reveal their sources, passed in the House this evening 398-21. Thank you for praying. Mike said this was one of his most intense days since he has been in Congress. He could feel the prayers. This is the tail end of his floor speech during the debate this morning: “Lastly, let me say how humbling it is for me to have played a small role in moving this legislation forward. From my youth, I’ve enjoyed a fascination with freedom and with the American Constitution."

“I learned early on that freedom’s work is never finished. It falls on each generation of Americans to preserve, protect and defend our freedoms as those who have bequeathed it to us did in their time. “The banner of The Indianapolis Star, the newspaper of record in my home state, quotes a verse from the Bible that reads, ‘Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."

“As I opened my Bible this morning for devotions it was that verse that just happened to be in my daily readings. It reminded me that when we do freedom’s work, like putting this stitch in a tear in the fabric of the Bill of Rights, His work has truly become our own. I ask all of my colleagues in both parties to join us today in freedoms unfinished work, say ‘yes’ to a free and independent press, vote ‘yes’ on the Free Flow of Information Act.”

Today is another big day, as Mike brings the discharge petition to the floor to force an up or down vote to repeal the Fairness Doctrine for ever. Please pray for 218 members to sign on.

Mexico's Fox openly calls for North American Union

Mexico's former President Vicente Fox is making no secret of his desire to promote a "North American Union" to compete economically with Europe and the Far East.

In a promotional tour for his new book, "Revolution of Hope," Fox told NPR's "Talk of the Nation" audience: "That's part of my Americas dream, that we can build our future together. We are partners with United States and Canada through NAFTA. There are other blocs in Latin America, but at the very end a continental trade agreement and union on the long term would be a way to develop ourselves and to be able to have the standards and level of living that we all need."

Labor Doesn't Benefite From Anti-Business Mood

Reflecting upon America's seemingly anti-business mood, it is nothing short of biting the hand that feeds us. There are some among us who believe that we can strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. In truth, the strong pull the weak up into prosperity. A sustained, crippling attack upon the strong will eventually lead to a crippling of American society. Stated simply, the process of destroying those who pay the wages, necessarily leads to our own self-destruction.

Labor and management must begin to work together to strengthen America's position in the world. Some industries have been shut down by unions, causing the loss of countless jobs, including their own.

To my friends in labor, I ask, "Would you risk your personal savings, second mortgage your home and borrow heavily from the bank to start a new business that you knew someone else was going to profit from?" Absolutely not! We all want the rewards that compensate our own personal risks. Many of today's workers are demanding a share in the company's profits. Forgive me, but aren't we receiving a share in the profits every time we're handed our paychecks?

Government, by legislating prohibitive operating restrictions and unnecessarily stiff business taxation is also choking economic expansion. We all know that the destruction of the rich does not help the poor. Clearly, the disintegration of the Soviet Union shows what happens to a nation holding unhealty attitudes toward their wealthy members. Americans know that the wealthy pay our wages, buy homes, cars and boats. In other words, it's their purchasing power that generates jobs for all of us.

Ronald Reagan once said, "A rising tide floats all boats." Pride within the labor force enhances management's position to make a profit. Likewise, strong company profits expand the economy, thus creating additional jobs. Like it or not, our survival depends upon one another, both labor and management, working together.
