Congressman Mike Pence Awarded 2008 Distinguished Christian Statesman Award

2008 Distinguished Christian Statesman Award

D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship honors Indiana

June 28, 2008 -- The D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship (CCS) honored Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana on Wednesday evening at a dinner in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill. Dr. George Roller, Executive Director of the Center, along with the Rev. John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and Anne Kennedy, widow of the late D. James Kennedy, presented the Distinguished Christian Statesman award to Pence, thanking him for his exemplary conduct in public office.

A Christian Statesman is one whose commitment to Christ and love of country compel him or her to stand for truth and righteousness in government. Pence is the thirteenth recipient of this award. Previous awardees include Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, Rep. Mike McIntyre, Sen. Dan
Coates, Judge Roy Moore, Director of U.S. Office of Personnel, Kay Coles James, Sen. Sam Brownback and Rep. Todd Akin.

In accepting the award, Mike Pence said he had been greatly influenced by the ministry of D. James Kennedy. "The Center for Christian Statesmanship is a model of faith in action - action which has been and continues to be a blessing to scores of Congressional staff as well as
Members of Congress," said Pence. "I am deeply humbled to be chosen as the 'Distinguished Christian Statesman of 2008.' To join the company of those statesmen who have been chosen in the past is a great honor."

The Center for Christian Statesmanship is a part of the international outreach of Evangelism Explosion International, the first Christian ministry to reach into every nation on earth. Sorensen said that, "the work on Capitol Hill fits perfectly into the vision of Evangelism
Explosion, which is fulfilling the Great Commission and spreading the gospel to all people in this generation."

Midwest Looting

Have you seen the pictures from Iowa, Indiana and the other Midwest states of the people looting liquor stores, carrying away television sets from retail stores, people sitting on the roof begging someone to take care of them, collecting at the baseball stadium, complaining about the food and shelter being provided them?

Oops, I'm sorry, New Orleans is further south, isn't it?

Dr. James Dobson "Terrified" By Barack Hussein Obama

Focus on the Family's Dr. James Dobson ripped Barack Hussein Obama, saying the Obama terrifies him.

Dobson appeared on Sean Hannity's radio program on Tuesday. During the show, Hannity commented that he found Obama to be dishonest overall, noting that, "I think he was dishonest to the American people," when speaking of his former pastor and spiritual adviser the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Obama said that Wright had never expressed vitriol to Obama stating, "this is not the man I knew," although he sat in a pew and listened to him for 20 years! Hanity said, "I think he's fundamentally dishonest and has been on a variety of issues, the most recent his flipping and flopping on public financing, etc. I think he's got some character issues as relates to honesty."

Congress Fiddles While Rome Burns!

Driven by the relentless rise in fuel costs, American businesses spent a record $1.4 trillion on logistics last year. That was equal to 10.1 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, a percentage not equaled since 2000.

Effective transportation management doesn't just reduce freight cost,  it also has a broad affect on overall supply chain performance,  inventory efficiency and warehouse productivity.

All this is for naught as long as Congress keeps their heads buried in the sand and continues to worry more about their own re-election than they do for the financial stability of our nation and its people. Without leadership at the helm,  America will continue its downward spiral, eventually leading us into a world-wide depression.

Is Mike Pence the only member of Congress possessing an I.Q. higher than a single digit?

Did Jesus Say, "I Am One Of The Ways, Kinda Sorta The Truth And Maybe Even A Little Somewhat Of The Life?"

This week the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life released the results of a very large survey of 35,000 religious Americans that is drawing some media praise and probably some heartburn among many religious leaders.

The survey was reported by many secular sources as evidence of a widespread "religious tolerance" in America. Many religious leaders correctly pointed out that tolerance is quite different from a cultural conformity or religious ignorance that the study results could also be interpreted to reveal.

Among evangelical Christians (or perhaps more accurately, evangelical Christian church regular attendees) a surprising 57% said that they believe that many religions can lead to eternal life. Overall, 70% of Americans who hold a religious affiliation believe that there are many pathways to eternal life.  This belief contradicts traditional Christian views such as Christ's words from John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me."

The teaching of exclusivity is held by other religions as well, but Jewish Americans, by 82% and Muslims by 56% also believe in multiple pathways to God.  Catholics, more than most other groups were found to stray from Church beliefs on God and church doctrinal teachings, particularly on abortion and same-sex marriage. Still, 44% of all respondents believe that their religion should strongly adhere to its traditional beliefs and practices.

The poll was not without some humor. It also found that among self-identified Atheists, 21% say that they believe in a universal spirit or God, with 8% of them absolutely certain of it. (Overall, 92% of Americans believe in God, 74% believe in life after death.)

Another finding of interest from this group which could have ramifications this fall is that only 14% of religious Americans say that their religious beliefs have a major impact upon their political views.

It is hard not to conclude from this survey that large segments of people of faith (all faiths) are conforming to the dominant views of the pop culture more than they are to some basic core teachings of their own faith.

Richmond Catholic Community Charismatic Prayer Group Meeting July 20th

The monthly meeting of the Richmond Catholic Community Charismatic Prayer Group will meet on July 20, 2008 in the basement of St. Mary Church 710 North A Street Richmond, IN 47374.

"I have no hesitation in saying that all pastoral initiatives must be set in relation to holiness....Stressing holiness remains more than ever an urgent pastoral task....

"Our Christian communities must become genuine 'schools' of prayer, where the meeting with Christ is expressed no just in imploring help, but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening, and ardent devotion until the heart truly 'falls in love.' Intense prayer, yes, but it does not distract us from our commitment to history: by opening our heart to the love of God it also opens it to the love of our brothers and sisters, and makes us capable of shaping history according to God's plan."

Angel Food Ministries Delivering 131 Tons of Food Across South Carolina

More than 131 tons of food was delivered across South Carolina on May 17th of this year as local churches banded together with Angel Food Ministries to help hard hit families deal with the impact of rising food costs. With a box of food full of quality meat and other essentials, these local churches are helping seniors on fixed incomes, single parents and hard-working people who struggle just to keep their families fed.

According to a 2006 study by the Economic Research Service, 14.7 percent of South Carolinians are in need of food assistance. With the 4.2 % increase in rising food cost hitting these and others, this local distribution will help families with enough food for about a week and senior citizens for about a month.

Local churches and non-profits join with Angel Food Ministries in distribution of top quality food that has been purchased in very large quantities from the nation's top suppliers.

Churches are asked to please prayerfully consider specifying Source Transport to handle your freight handling needs. Source Transport is a division of Logisource, and can be contacted by calling 1-800-864-8133

Angel Food Ministries Reaches Hundreds of Airmen at Barksdale AFB

United We Stand

For Years it has been the desire of Angel Food Ministries to be able to give back to the men and woman who, through our military, defend the freedoms we share in the United States every day. This December we finally got the opportunity as we along with Operation Warm Heart hosted the first ever AFM distribution on a military base. More than 220 Air Force personnel and their families at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana received Angel Food.

“I’m just overwhelmed,” admitted AFM Founder and CEO Pastor Joe Wingo. “For so long, we have wanted to be on a military base, to help our Airmen. They give up their lives and guard with their lives. I think the very least we could do is something like this.”

Pastor Joe witnessed the distribution firsthand along with eight other AFM personnel. “When we first started Angel Food Ministries, we were just trying to feed the 34 families that came to our back porch,” Pastor Joe shared, reminiscing about the ministry’s 13-year history. “I never imagined that today we would be standing on an Air Force base feeding our military men and woman.”

The opportunity to distribute at Barksdale was the idea of Master Sergeant Chuck Profitt. After personally experiencing the advantage of receiving Angel Food, which his family had purchased through a local host site, Profitt knew Angel Food would be a benefit to the families at Barksdale.

“One of my jobs as a Master Sergeant is to look for opportunities, things that would benefit the Airmen,” Profitt explained, “and I got to thinking there’s got to be a way to get this in the hands of the Airmen.”

When the base’s other officers discovered the quality and value of the food provided, they knew Angel Food would be a great resource for the base’s men and woman. The holiday season, especially, can be a difficult time for military families as enlisted members are often serving abroad.

“I’m a single parent this year, and Angel Food really helps me out,” said Sergeant Rideout , one of those who took part in the distribution. “Money is tight, and I’m trying to buy Christmas presents for my kids.”

Second Bomb Wing Commander, Colonel Robert Wheeler understands the needs of the families at Barksdale, and he’s glad to work with an organization that shares the same goals as the US military. “It’s what Americans do; we take care of each other. That’s what makes us different from a lot of folks in the world. We go above and beyond, and we try to make a difference in the world.”

Of course, the Airmen themselves showed the greatest appreciation for Angel Food’s visit. They were grateful for the amount of food that they found inside their boxes. As an added benefit, Angel Food donated one dollar for each box purchased into Barksdale’s Operation Warm Heart Fund, a benevolent fund that serves the base’s Airmen.

“We applaud you for what you are doing,” Pastor Joe said to the Barksdale Airmen. “We love our country, and we want to do whatever we can to help you.”

Thank you to those serving at Barksdale Air Force Base. You have helped fulfill a dream for this ministry. This distribution was hopefully just the beginning of many more to our military personnel and our great country.

Catholic Charities Under Federal Investigation For Helping Teenager Get Abortion

Washington, DC (19 June 2008) – Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo of the Diocese of Richmond, Va. is under fire for allegedly covering up a scandal in which Commonwealth Catholic Charities of Richmond (CCR), now under federal investigation, falsified documents and paid for a 16-year-old to have an abortion in January.

“This latest scandal and the foot dragging that occurred on the part of the bishops gives us cause to wonder how serious a problem this really is in dioceses across America,” said American Life League President Judie Brown, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is investigating CCR after learning employees not only illegally signed abortion consent forms, but also helped the girl implant a contraceptive device months before.

According to an investigative article from The Wanderer, Bishop DiLorenzo wrote a letter to his fellow bishops April 29 - three months after the abortion - detailing how CCR was complicit in procuring and paying for the abortion. One employee is said to have accompanied the girl to the abortion mill January 18.

The Guatemalan girl is an illegal immigrant and ward of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Department of Health and Human Services.

The letter from Bishop DiLorenzo admits that the “implementation of the contraceptive device and the abortion were contrary to basic teachings of the Catholic Church … we are aware that this incident is a most regrettable stain on the record of excellence both of the MRS (Migration and Refugee Services) and Catholic Charities.”

The Wanderer reports that it could find no evidence that the incident was reported to local social services or the Virginia State Police as is required by the Richmond diocese guidelines on reporting “ministry-related” sexual abuse.

According to the Washington Times, David Siegel, acting director of the HHS Refugee Resettlement Office, criticized the USCCB in a letter April 23.

"USCCB's inability to direct the actions of its sub-grantee was a failure of management, oversight and monitoring," he said in the letter to Johnny Young, executive director of the USCCB Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) agency.

Four Catholic Charities employees have been fired. Bishop DiLorenzo’s letter also states MRS staff will receive training on “the primacy of Catholic teachings and beliefs as they impact their work or professional ethics ... to assure that such unacceptable incidents never happen again.”

“What is the criteria for employment?” asked Brown. “Does a diocese place more emphasis on being politically correct than in assuring that employees are people of ethical and moral strength?”

"Juneteenth" Civil Rights Holiday Observed by Black Conservatives

Washington, D.C. - "Juneteenth" is the oldest and most recognized commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Members of the Project 21 black leadership network suggest the Juneteenth holiday - observed every June 19 - be used as a day for reflection on the struggle for freedom and the ongoing quest for self-empowerment.

Project 21 members, who have called attention to the Juneteenth since 1999, urge black Americans to use this day to embrace their inherent talents and strengthen their ties with family and community for the betterment of themselves and future generations.

"As we celebrate Juneteenth we should never forget that with freedom comes the responsibility to take advantage of our hard-fought liberty by making good decisions to better our lives," said Project 21 Fellow Deneen Borelli.

Juneteenth commemorates the anniversary of the arrival of Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. The soldiers carried with them the news that the Civil War was over and that slavery was abolished through President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation two and-a-half years earlier.

The annual commemoration of this date, which became known as Juneteenth, quickly became a stabilizing as well as a motivating presence in the lives of the African-Americans who lived in Texas and faced many uncertainties associated with newly-acquired freedom. The observance quickly spread from Texas to be recognized across the United States.

Juneteenth is celebrated in many ways, but education and self-improvement have been consistent themes at commemorative community gatherings and picnics in recent years.
In 1980, Juneteenth was made an official holiday in Texas. According to the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign, 25 states currently recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday. It has been recognized by President George W. Bush in special presidential messages.

"Growing up in Texas, Juneteenth has always been a celebration of freedom and liberty, a time to be grateful for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," said Project 21 member Lisa Fritsch. "It is a day to be thankful the strength and fortitude of our ancestors. A day to be thankful for America."

Barack Obama's Political Fundraiser Tony Rezko Found Guilty on 16 Counts in Corruption Trial

A federal grand jury has found a prominent political fundraiser for Senator Barack Hussein Obama and Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich guilty of 16 of 24 counts in his Illinois corruption trial.

Antoin "Tony" Rezko was accused of scheming to get bribes from businesses seeking state contracts.

The jury delivered the verdict Wednesday after a nine-week trial.

Rezko has known Obama since he entered politics and was involved in a 2005 real estate deal with the Democratic presidential candidate, although testimony barely touched on their relationship. Most of the focus was on the shakedowns prosecutors said Rezko arranged when he was a top advisor to Blagojevich.

Habitat for Humanity Ending Relationship with Planned Parenthood

American Life League Applauds Habitat for Humanity For Ending Relationship with Planned Parenthood

WASHINGTON, D.C. (04 June 2008) - Jim Sedlak, vice president for American Life League, issued the following statement about Habitat for Humanity of Sarasota, FL ending its cooperation with Planned Parenthood:

"We received news this morning that the Board of Directors of Habitat For Humanity of Sarasota, Inc. voted last evening to disengage itself from Planned Parenthood and not go through with a planned land deal. We are extremely pleased that the Habitat board saw fit to take this action."

“In early May, Sarasota Habitat had agreed to buy a piece of land from Planned Parenthood for $10 and agreed to build multi-family housing on the land. This agreement allowed Planned Parenthood to fulfill a zoning requirement it needed in order to get an occupancy permit for a new abortion facility it is building in Sarasota. American Life League worked with local pro-lifers and publicized this fact across the country, resulting in a large number of phone calls to local Habitat offices as well as Habitat for Humanity International offices.”

“Organizations must realize that associating themselves with Planned Parenthood – operators of the nation’s largest abortion chain – will be viewed negatively by many good people in this country. Planned Parenthood is a controversial organization and that controversy will transfer to any group associated with Planned Parenthood.”

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death. Barack Hussein Obama the "Post Turtle"

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher , whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.'

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of an idiot put him up there.'

'Bombshell Heading Michelle Obama's Way'

If any of you had the opportunity to watch Fox & FRiends this morning, you probably saw Bob Beckel being interviewed about todays political events.

Towards the end of the interview he announced to the Fox & FRiends hosts that he has been told by numerous people,(enough and in a way that convinced him) that a bombshell will be dropping tomorrow about Michele Obama.

The Friends turned white and asked what it might be...was it worse than a college thesis? Bob said--Oh yes, in a BIG way. He said that the Repubs were behind it and it was dumb because it meant that Mrs. Clinton would be the nominee.

So the die is cast, IMHO Hillary will suspend her campaign within the next 24 hours and then the bomb will drop, leaving the Republics to take the blame.

Beckel said that this will make Hillary the candidate. Whatever is on that tape (if it is a tape) it must be a beaut. Is this for real? Could it be just more rumor related to a "Whitey" tape? We'll know very soon, one way or the other!

Colorado Amendment to Give Rights to Unborn

Aaron Leichman
Christian Post Reporter

In what would be the first such measure in the history of the United States, a pro-life group in Colorado has successfully submitted a referendum that would give equal legal status to the unborn.

The constitutional amendment, which reads, "The term 'person' or 'persons' shall include any human being from the moment of conception,” would successfully outlaw abortion throughout the entire state if a majority of voters vote positively on the amendment when they go to the polls this November.

Colorado for Equal Rights, which helped gather over 130,000 signatures to qualify the referendum on this year’s ballot, praised the initiative as victory for human life.

“We are giving Colorado voters an opportunity to vote their conscience and protect the most innocent and helpless ones among us. If life is protected from the very beginning, Colorado for Equal Rights believes that we can transform our nation from a culture of death into a culture of life,” the group said.

A key part of the amendment, the group emphasized, would give all unborn persons from conception the “inalienable rights” of “enjoying and defending their lives and liberties.”
"All humans should be protected by love and by law, and this amendment is a historic effort to ensure equal rights for every person," explained Kristi Burton of Colorado for Equal Rights.
The success of the ballot initiative has also recently encouraged pro-life groups in Montana to begin gathering signatures to push a similar measure of their own.
