Eucharistic Congress September 11 and 12, 2009

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C.

Theme: Sacrifice of Enduring Love: A Eucharistic Congress

The Congress will consider:

The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of enduring love, where Jesus Christ our Savior gives Himself totally as Bridegroom, uniting to himself His Spouse, the Church, in the perfect Sacrifice of love that brings to fulfillment the communion between God and His people.

Within the universal call to holiness in which all the baptized share, three ways of life within the Christian vocation will be explored in depth. Each is characterized by:

+ an irrevocable commitment;
+ an identification with Christ in his submission to the Will of the Father; and
+ a complete gift of self in love

• Priesthood Configured by Holy Orders to Christ, priest, prophet and king in the image of Christ the Spouse Who offered Himself completely in love for His Bride, the Church, a man is consecrated in Christ’s name for the salvation of others, feeding the Church by the word and grace of God. (CCC 1534)

• Religious Life: Entering into an intimate spousal union with Christ and with the Church within a religious institute by profession of the evangelical counsels, a woman or man bears witness to the communion of life within the Most Holy Trinity, following Christ more closely through this total gift of self to the praise and glory of God, for the salvation of souls and for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven.

• Marriage: By the gift of man and woman to one another in Christ, an irrevocable and fruitful communion of persons is achieved that is a real symbol of the fidelity of God to His covenant and of Christ to His Church. The love of the spouses is a participation in the very charity of Christ who gave Himself completely on the Cross. (FC 13)

Dr. James Dobson: McCain's Choice of Palin "Outstanding!"

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Focus Action founder cites 'bravery and integrity' of Alaska governor

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning that Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, had selected Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate:

“Sen. McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is an outstanding choice that should be extremely reassuring to the conservative base of his party. She is a strong executive who hates corruption and puts principle above politics. After floating the names of Tom Ridge and Sen. Joe Lieberman in recent weeks – selections that would have created consternation among pro-family Republicans – Sen. McCain has chosen a solid conservative who has a reputation for espousing common sense.

“Gov. Palin’s commitment to the sanctity of life is not just a political position. She was advised to abort her fifth and youngest child when it was learned he had Down syndrome. She refused. That’s bravery and integrity in action.

“Gov. Palin’s views align with Sen. McCain’s own stated position that human life is precious and must be protected – and that gives us confidence he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices he would nominate to the Supreme Court and the way he would conduct our nation’s domestic and international affairs. This selection by Sen. McCain is a very encouraging sign for his campaign.”

Catholic Bishops Begin Standing In Line To Correct Mother Superior Nancy Pelosi

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Bishop Zubik of Pittsburgh corrects Pelosi on Church teachings on abortion

Statement by Bishop David A. Zubik on “Meet the Press” comments by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

On Sunday, August 24, on “Meet the Press,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepped out of her political role and completely misrepresented the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion. She said that Church teaching condemning procured abortion is somehow new and therefore unsettled. She could not have been more wrong.

Jesus proclaimed the sacredness of human life throughout his teaching and ministry. In a Roman world where abortion was commonplace, the Church proclaimed its intrinsic moral evil. The Didache, perhaps the earliest known Christian manual of moral teaching dating from the first century, rejected abortion. Early Church councils considered it one of the most serious crimes.

That teaching has remained constant and unaltered for two millennia.

As the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith re-stated in 1974, “The first right of the human person is his life. … It does not belong to society, nor does it belong to public authority in any form to recognize this right for some and not others. … From the time the ovum is fertilized, a life is begun which is neither that of the father nor of the mother; it is rather the life of a new human being.”

The teaching of the Church on abortion is settled. And as old as the Gospels.

This has got to be an act of the Holy Spirit because for far too long, the Bishops have remained silent regarding Abortion and Pro-Life issues as regards to the Democratic Party. It's long overdue for the Church to stand up and deny the Eucharist to and Excommunication of Abortionists!

Mother Superior Nancy Pelosi's Abortion Statements a Scandal Says Father Mitch Pacwa, S.J.

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Contact: Michelle Johnson, EWTN Global Catholic Network, 205-795-5769, mjohnson@ewtn.com

IRONDALE, Alabama, Aug. 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- EWTN Global Catholic Network TV Host Father Mitch Pacwa S.J. took Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to task last night for misrepresenting Church teaching on abortion in an Aug. 24 interview with Tom Brokaw on Meet the Press.

In her interview, Pelosi told Brokow that "as an ardent, practicing Catholic" who has studied the issue of when life begins for "a long time," she could say that the Church fathers, especially St. Augustine, were not sure of when life begins, and that the Church had only made this decision in the past 50 years. She then drew the conclusion that this should not impact on a woman's right to choose.

On his Tuesday night show, "Threshold of Faith," Father Pacwa explained that Pelosi was in grave error about the teaching of the Church fathers, summarized what other Church leaders are saying about her public statements, and offered her this piece of advice:

"[A]s an ardent, practicing Catholic, you must conform your conscience to the teaching of the Church that goes back [to] the very beginning of the Church on this moral issue."

After explaining how grave a sin abortion was to Church fathers and citing early Church leaders and Church documents, Father Pacwa gave this moral counsel to Pelosi: "If you are ignorant and you don't know [when life begins], then you go on the side of safety and protecting rights. You don't bomb a city where there might be a lot of civilians. You say, 'Well, I’m not sure.' Well, then be on the side of safety. Protect the lives of the innocent, the non-combatants.

"Same with the unborn children. You must also go on the side of your ignorance to say then, "If I don't know, then I'll protect all the more. I don't want to act while I'm ignorant."

Father Pacwa called on Pelosi to use her position "to make sure not that there are few and rare abortions, but that there are zero abortions and that you would do everything you can to protect life. This is the duty of us all."

EXCOMMUNICATE JOE BIDEN!

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

DELEWARE, August 26, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In an interview with Bob Krebs, the Communications Director for the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, to which Senator Joseph Biden belongs, Krebs confirmed that Biden's Bishop will not permit the Senator even if elected Vice President of the United States of America to speak at Catholic schools.

When asked for the Bishop's take on Senator Biden and his stand in favor of abortion, Krebs directed LifeSiteNews.com to Bishop Michael Saltarelli's 2004 statement on 'Catholics in Political Life' which, said Krebs, "very plainly states Bishop's position in this matter."

In that document Bishop Saltarelli notes that, in line with the US Bishops Conference policy, "Our Catholic institutions will not honor Catholic politicians who take pro-abortion legislative positions or invite them to speak at our functions or schools."

LifeSiteNews.com called the diocesan communications director a second time to ask if that specific ban on speaking at Catholic schools or Catholic functions would apply to Biden, even if he became the Vice President.

Krebs replied, "I would say that as long as Senator Biden's stated position on abortion remains the same then it would apply to Senator Biden whether he was a Senator or the Vice President of any type of public figure."

In the same 2004 document, Bishop Saltarelli singled out Catholic politicians like Biden who claim a personal opposition to abortion but that they could not impose their faith's beliefs on others. Wrote the Bishop: "No one today would accept this statement from any public servant: 'I am personally opposed to human slavery and racism but will not impose my personal conviction in the legislative arena.' Likewise, none of us should accept this statement from any public servant: 'I am personally opposed to abortion but will not impose my personal conviction in the legislative arena.'"

In the document, Bishop Saltarelli does not rule out refusing communion to pro-abortion politicians but does say that he much prefers "active engagement and dialogue". He notes that he does not expect priests and others administering communion to withhold it from politicians. "That is ultimately my responsibility," he said.

The Associated Press reports that Biden received Communion last Sunday at his local parish of St. Joseph on the Brandywine near his home in Greenville, Delaware. Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput commented to AP that Biden should not present himself for Communion given his public support for abortion.

PRO-LIFE BLOGGER ALERT! IT'S TIME TO RALLY THE TROOPS!

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL PRO-LIFE BLOGGERS TO RALLY AND TELL JOHN MCCAIN WE WANT MIKE PENCE TO BE OUR VICE PRESIDENT!!!!

Mike Pence: Christian, Conservative, Republican (in that order)

by

Chris Dickson

From 1992 to 1999, Congressman Pence would espouse these credentials every day on his syndicated talk show heard throughout Indiana. In November of 2004, he was re-elected to his third term in the United States Congress from Indiana’s 6th Congressional District.

Mike Pence personifies the core conservative values of the Red-State-Midwest commonly known as “Hoosier Values.” Born in Columbus, Indiana into an extremely patriotic family (Mike still cherishes the Bronze Star his father was awarded in Korea,) Mike’s parents instilled in him the values that became the guiding principles throughout his life. As example, when Pence was attending Law School, he and his wife Karen donated their spare time volunteering at a local soup kitchen in Indianapolis, Indiana through Catholic Charities.

On January 29th of 2004, Congressman Pence appeared in Cal Thomas’s nationally syndicated column under the heading, “Trouble With Bush’s Right.” Cal had just returned from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where he heard a powerful and stirring speech from Pence entitled, “Christian-conservative-Republican (In That Order).” Thomas was so deeply moved by the Congressman’s words that he devoted his entire column that week to Pence’s speech.

Congressman Pence is one of the great polemicists of our time and has been a great source of encouragement to everyone who knows him. He has a very clear vision for dynamic reforming of government in the 21st Century and as he becomes more prominent in the years ahead as a national figure, we hope he will continue articulating what resonates in the hearts of an overwhelming majority of American citizens.

It is one thing to espouse being a “Christian-conservative-Republican (In That Order),” yet it is quite another thing being able to prove it. There are an awful lot of people who ride into power, money and prestige on the coattails of the crucified Christ. Likewise, there are those who claim to be conservatives while promoting a liberal agenda. And there is an even larger percentage of people who claim to be Republicans who undermine the Republican platform and everything it stands for (we affectionately refer to these individuals as RINO’s, or “Republicans In Name Only”.) So how are we to determine the validity of their claims?

Is Mike Pence a Christian?

“The true Christian is the true citizen, lofty of purpose, resolute in endeavor, ready for a hero’s deeds, but never looking down on his task because it is cast in the day of small things.”

Theodore Roosevelt: Speech in New York
December 30, 1900

Not too long ago, when we talked about people in Washington having “convictions,” it meant they were going to prison for a while. We all remember former President Bill Clinton waving his oversized Bible in front of the press cameras on Sunday mornings, while at the same time desecrating the sanctity of the White House by having extramarital sex in the Oval Office with a young intern. I am reminded of the old adage, “Just because you go to McDonald’s, doesn’t make you a hamburger.” So the challenge is, of course, before we can define whether someone is a Christian or not, we must first define what it means to be a Christian.

The best definition I have ever encountered of what it means to be a Christian comes from a sermon Father Todd Riebe of the Richmond Catholic Community delivered on January 9, 2005:

“Whenever a new leader appears on the scene, whether it’s a new coach, a new university president, or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, a press conference is usually called to proclaim the leader’s qualifications and potential. These press conferences usually generate some excitement about the leader’s identity and arouse expectations about what the leader will accomplish.

“Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. It is the event that marked the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry and in a biblical way it is the equivalent of a press conference – but a unique press conference. God Himself reveals His Son, Jesus, as the long-awaited Messiah – the anointed one – the Christ. And in the waters of the River Jordan we are given a preview of what His mission will be.

“In the first reading from the Profit Isaiah we heard the mission that would belong to the Messiah. He will establish justice, open the eyes of the blind, bring out prisoners from their confinement, lift up those who have fallen and heal the bruised.

“There’s a twofold dimension to what is revealed at Jesus’ baptism. First, He is revealed as God’s own Son, and secondly, His mission is revealed – He will do the work of God. Identity and mission.

“So, too, our baptism, perhaps caught in pictures or today even in video, is something to be lived out each and every day. It is not enough for us to accept baptism passively as something done to us – we must allow it to shape our deepest identity as children of God – beloved children of God – and we must find in our baptism our fundamental vocation – our call to be other ‘christs’ in the world.

“No matter what work we do – whether it be a bank president or priest or teacher or student or factory worker – we were anointed at our baptism with chrism – sweet smelling perfume – and we are called to take the fragrance of Christ wherever we go.

”We are called to bring relief to people whose lives have been bruised, to bring new sight to those who have been blinded by the false promises of the world, to free people who have been imprisoned by the injustice of ignorance or prejudice, to show sympathy to those who have lost a loved one, to assist the sick and shut-in, to bring understanding where there is conflict.

“Jesus’ baptism was not an end – it was a beginning, the beginning of His life’s work. So, too, our baptism was not an end. It was the beginning of the world to which we have been called by God – the work of those who have been anointed – set apart as other christs – set apart to continue His saving work.

”What is our identity and what is our mission in life? At His baptism Jesus’ identity was revealed and his mission was revealed. At our baptism our identity was revealed and our mission was given to us.”

When Father Riebe was asked for a copy of his sermon, he was told it was going to be used in a book to define what it means to be a Christian, and would be used in the chapter devoted to Mike Pence. His eyes lit up, he smiled broadly and said, “Oh yes, he’s the genuine article!”

We will call upon witnesses who can testify that he is an extraordinarily effective leader who is willing to take a moral stand based on Biblical principles.

Throughout most of the 1990’s, Micah Clark served as Director of Public Policy for an Indiana-based advocacy organization associated with Focus on the Family, one of the largest Christian ministries in the United Sates.

Micah Clark writes:

“At the pro-family organization we were fortunate to have Mike and Karen Pence as members of our board ...As I recall, it was the policy of our organization to ask perspective board members to sign or give a statement of faith. For a person who was often heard telling tens of thousands that he was a Christian, I doubt if Mike’s statement of faith was anything more than a mere formality to joining our board.

After all, a statement of faith, a radio celebrity’s claim to Christianity, or even a Congressman’s association with God in the heartland of America is hardly a tough sell. In fact, to state that you lack such faith in many areas of Indiana will still raise eyebrows even in 2005.

Our Lord tells us that on judgment day when Christ reviews our life on this earth, “many will say to me on that day Lord, Lord did we not prophesy in you name?” He will then say, “depart from me I never knew you.” It is clear that a mere claim to faith is not in and of itself steadfast evidence of one’s being a true believer.

So the question before this audience is “do we have real evidence of Indiana’s 6th District Congressman’s faith?” In this matter, I am surely not the foremost authority. Many of the Congressman’s closest friends are quick to testify of his deep convictions and personal faith in the very best sense of those terms with a long list of examples or stories.

I could easily point to many public evidences of Mike Pence being a man possessing a life-altering, personally-influential faith in all the standard ways. Even after two full terms in Congress, Mike Pence has continued his close association with many other well known believers, faith-based organizations and his own church. I could point to his congressional record of defending the values which are so strongly rooted in faith. I could point to his clearly articulated concerns over the moral decay of society. I could point to his passionate speeches skillfully using Biblical references and principles which amazingly neither compromise truth nor divide most audiences. I could point to his legislative success in protecting “the least of these” among us, our children, from the forces of evil in the pornography industry. The list would be a long one, indeed.

Yet, there is another standard that Christ gave to his disciples in which he said that all people would know that one is a follower of His. He said we would be known as His followers if we have “love for one another.” On this one criteria, I would rest my case as personal evidence of Mike Pence being a man of faith.

As Mike was becoming a household word in many Hoosier homes through 15 hours of radio each week and a Saturday television show, I had the privilege of meeting Mike from time to time for lunch, almost always at his request. Mike knew that although I was a pro-family leader, privately I could struggle with difficult personal matters very common to any Hoosier family. Yet, as a pro-family leader, I could not share it, or discuss it with just anyone. (I have often wondered how, when Dr. James Dobson, one of the nation’s foremost authorities on parenting, faced a challenge raising his son or daughter, was he able to tell anyone? Many leaders cannot just tell anyone that they are facing a matter everyone else faces, because no one expects you to encounter them because of who you are. It is the same reason we act surprised when we hear that our family doctor got a cold and called in sick.)

Mike always got to the heart of the matter in our discussions. We rarely discussed public policy. Instead we talked about our family, challenges we were facing or how God was working in our lives. They were talks coming from a compassionate concern from one believer for a fellow believer running in the same race. When Mike said, “I’ll be praying for you,” I knew he meant it. There were times looking back now when I see that God had clearly ordained certain meetings and discussions for a specific purpose, even if it was as simple as the important blessing of timely encouragement from a friend. It was a faith in action that to this day I have never forgotten.

Maybe when you talk politics on the radio you desire real life conversations. Maybe when you are a politician from a conservative district you know that to talk of God and to vote conservative is “good politics.” But when you are Mike Pence, a man of real faith, you simply express it, act on it, and you put that ‘love one another’ command into practice.”

Micah Clark is currently the Executive Director of the American Family Association of Indiana.

Is Mike Pence a Conservative?

“But look at us today. Security is above self-respect. We ask more money for less work. We are weaklings who want the government to take care of us when we should be taking care of ourselves. We pamper criminals and subversives when we should punish them. And we condemn those among us with the traits of their forefathers as reactionaries.”

Barry Goldwater: Mr. Conservative: Barry Goldwater
Doubleday and Company 1962

Mike Pence’s entry onto the political stage is clearly a defining moment in our nation’s history. His tremendous core conservatism is dedicated to limited government, fiscal government and traditional family values. He has become a national spokesman for conservative principles, appearing regularly on “NBC Nightly News,” “ABC World News Tonight,” CNN’s “Wolf Blitzer Reports,” and Crossfire,” and has been quoted in the New York Times, The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared on numerous programs on the Fox News Channel.

We will attempt to prove that it is Pence’s belief and hope that in the decades to come, the justness of our cause as a nation will not only be realized by the powerful and wealthy, but will also be realized within the obscure and hurting corners of our community. This realization has not materialized after nearly 60 years of Washington being dominated by liberals within the Democratic party, although they have professed all along that they are “for the down-and-outs” of our society. It has been a lie that followed on the heel of the natural consequences of socialism.

For our first group of witnesses, we call upon the 90-plus group of House conservatives who voted by an overwhelming 100 per cent to elect Mike Pence as their chairman of the House Republican Study Committee in the 109th Congress. Pence gave up his job as deputy whip to assume the chairmanship of the Republican Study Committee, and to quote Mike himself, “The agenda of the House conservatives comes first…For either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other ( a clear reference to Matthew 6:24.)”

David A. Keene, Chairman of the American Conservative Union, recently congratulated Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana upon his selection as chairman of the Republican Study Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“The Republican Study Committee is a bulwark of Reagan conservatism in the House,” said Keene. “And Mike Pence is one of the most distinguished conservative leaders in Congress.”

“Clearly, the American Conservative Union chose well when it selected Congressman Pence to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference. Mr. Pence’s speech was eloquent and stirring, a principled declaration on the current state of the conservative movement in an era of Republican hegemony in Congress.”

“ACU has every confidence that under Mike Pence’s leadership, the Republican Study Committee will continue to serve as the philosophical rudder to keep the Republican majority sailing a straight and true conservative course.”

Pence drew the ire of House leaders when he opposed legislation that would grant Medicare prescription-drug benefits because he knew it to be a budget buster, and a “prescription for disaster.” At a $400 Billion price tag over the next ten years, it became the largest increase in entitlements since Lyndon B. Johnson’s “New Deal.” According to Wes Vernon (NewsMax.com Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005,) “Rep. Mike Pence…cheerfully acknowledges this may make him ‘the skunk at the garden party,’ but he is determined to right what he and millions of Americans see as terrible wrongs...to eliminate the entitlement part of the prescription drug law. They will introduce legislation to narrow the benefits to those truly in need. The Midwest lawmaker estimates that would involve about 25% of the new law’s largesse. Many fear the prescription law, passed in the wee hours after much arm-twisting, will make it difficult, if not impossible, to keep taxes low in the future.”

On the issue of how conservative members of the House can unite and oppose rule changes, Pence cited the bankruptcy bill in which Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) added a provision that would deny protection to anti-abortion activists participating in protests. Conservatives rallied enough opposition that the bill was withdrawn from the floor of the House. The bill was later redrafted and passed without the abortion provision.

The following excerpts were pulled from a January 24, 2004 interview of David Keene on “NOW” with Bill Moyers.

Moyers:
What would happen if you asked conservatives at your meeting to pass a resolution calling on President Bush to veto this budget-busting bill that was passed this week?

Keene:
Well, the message from this meeting this week, where we have about 4,000 conservatives from around the country, these are the people that are the President’s base, is that, by golly, it’s time to do something about government spending. And we are, in fact, demanding that something be done.

As Congressman Mike Pence from Indiana said in the keynote to our convention, “When the ship starts to veer off –course or drift off-course, the crew ought to alert the captain that they sense that there’s something wrong so that they can make corrections.” This crew’s been alerting the captain. And I think there’s evidence that the captain’s beginning to listen.

Moyers:
What, in essence, defines a conservative today?

Keene:
I think I’ll go back to what Mike Pence said in opening this conference this week. We talked about the conservative desire for a smaller and limited government. A government that doesn’t tax people to death, a government that doesn’t regulate them to death, a government that doesn’t spend money that doesn’t exist.

We talked about the fact that conservatives believe in a strong defense, believe in being able to defend our population and in traditional values that conservatives have historically stood for. And Mike put it very effectively. He said, “If you don’t believe in those things you can be my friend, you can be our ally. We’ll work with you. But you don’t have the right to stand up and call yourself a conservative.

David Keene writes:

“Men and women run for Congress for a variety of reasons. Some want to “serve” and others crave the rush that comes from the exercise of political power. Others run because politics runs in their family or because they can’t think of anything else they might do with their lives.

Many such people get elected, serve honorably and provide the services to their constituents that are expected of a competent elected official. They retire or move on, however, without making any real mark or changing much. They are content to have served and to be remembered as decent, popular vote getters who did the work their constituents and party leaders expected of them.

Others, however, run not because they need or crave the job, but because they believe they can make a difference; because they share a vision of America that requires them to do what they can to preserve what’s best about the nation into which they have been born and to leave it an even better place for those who come after. They are motivated, in short, not by simple self-interest…though the best of them tend to be pretty good politicians…nor by a desire to exercise power for its own sake. They are motivated instead by their understanding of what politicians can do to build what Ronald Reagan so movingly described as “the Shining City upon a Hill.”

They are, in short, idealists in the very best sense of the word. They get up in the morning knowing what needs to be done and prepared to do what they honorably can to advance their ideals. They know too that in the political world in which they have chosen to operate it is never very easy to stick to their principles or to always distinguish between the tactical compromises that are a necessary part of politics and those that can eventually cost them their ideological souls.

The best of them work within their Parties and become effective legislators without slavishly following their “leaders” when asked to take positions they know to be wrong for political or partisan reasons. There aren’t as many of them as there should be, but they tend to step forward when they’re needed to stand up for traditional American values. Without them the great experiment that is the United States would by now be but a memory.

Mike Pence is such a legislator. He likes to describe himself as a Christian, a Conservative and a Republican…in that order and the description is apt. His conservative beliefs are based on his faith and the belief in the dignity of the individual that flows from that faith and I know that if he had to choose between his career and the beliefs he holds so dear, he wouldn’t take a second to make the choice.

Like most conservatives today, he sees the modern Republican Party as the most reliable effective political organization on the scene. As a consequence, when he ran for office he ran as a Republican and spends a great deal of time working to make his chosen party both more effective and more consistently conservatism, but when faced with a choice between principle and party he has never hesitated to stick with his principles.

That is not always easy as any political party is an at best imperfect vehicle for the idealist and a party’s leaders are prone to ask or even demand blind loyalty of its members. In the last Congress, Mike was faced with just such a demand as the President and Congressional party leaders sought votes for a bill that Mike and most conservatives believed ill-conceived and financially imprudent.

Still, many and perhaps even most of his conservative colleagues swallowed hard, put their misgivings aside and followed their leaders. Mike didn’t. He emerged as a leader of a small band of conservatives willing to stand against their leaders and even their President in the name of principle. They withstood the pleas and threats. Virtually all of them were forced to tell the President of the United States personally as well as their leaders in Congress that they couldn’t go along with them and still look at themselves in the mirror.

That was not easy. They lost the fight, but made their point and went on during the ensuing campaign that while they were not prepared to abandon principle, they were willing to work their hearts out for their party and President. They proved themselves good Republicans, but better conservatives and for that won the respect of all who knew them.

Their fear was that the President had strayed off course and was not doing all he could to keep government spending under control. They feared, quite correctly, that if he and their GOP leaders in Congress weren’t willing to fight to gain control, spending and government could spin out of control.

They made their point. Presidents rarely admit they are wrong, but this time the President promised that things would be different during his second term and that promise was repeated time and time again during his campaign for re-election as well as in his first State of the Union message after the election. By standing up, Mike and his colleagues made a difference and, in the process, made their President a stronger and more effective leader.

Although I doubt Mike expected it as he lost his fight, it was the way he fought it that has made him a hero among his colleagues and among all those who know him. When he was selected before the beginning of this Congress to head the Republican Study Committee, the organization to which most conservatives in the House belong, he accepted the position and announced that before he accepted it he had decided that he would drop the party leadership post for which he had also been selected. He did so, he explained, because “one cannot serve two masters.”

All of this demonstrates not only that Mike puts principle above party and that by doing so serves principles and his party. “

David Keene, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, is a political activist and columnist. As Chairman of the American Conservative Union (the oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization in America,) he appears regularly on national television, and his column appears regularly in THE HILL, a newspaper that covers Congress.

Joe Feuerherd, in his January 5, 2005 column in the National Catholic Reporter, said of Mike Pence:

“…He takes the issues, though not himself seriously. Which is an accomplishment in itself, particularly because Pence – leader of the 100-plus member House Republican Study Committee (RSC) – may prove to be one of the most important members of Congress over the next two years, in addition to being a not-insignificant thorn in the side of Speaker Dennis Hastert, majority Leader Tom Delay and President George W. Bush.

“As the unanimously elected RSC chairman, Pence represents a breed of Republican not in favor with the big spenders of the current administration. “Reagan proved deficits don’t matter,” Vice President Dick Cheney reportedly told former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.

“Pence, by contrast, not only says he opposes “big government,” he actually votes that way. He opposed the Republican-backed Medicare prescription drug benefit (the “entitlement” portion of which he’s hoping to repeal this year), he voted against the “No Child Left Behind Act” (which sought “to make Washington, D.C., a national board of education”) and regrets his support for the $462 billion farm bill.

“Pence won 67 percent of the vote last November in his east central Indiana district, up from just 51 percent in 2000. His conservative economic views – free trade and less government – are not universally popular in his district, which, between 1975-95, was represented by a Democrat. It is his “traditional moral values” position on abortion, marriage and other social issues that lead to the district’s “Reagan Democrats” to overwhelmingly vote for him, says Pence.

“Pence in many ways personifies the Red State Republicans whose influence will be felt both within their own party and on the national stage for decades to come…”

Is Mike Pence a Republican?

“I resist the word ‘moderate’ because it is a base-stealing word for the benefit of GOP liberals.”

Wm. F. Buckley, Jr. “On The Right”
March 21, 1967

Republicans come in all shapes and sizes. The Party accommodates and allows for Liberals, moderates and Conservatives to set at the same table, and demonstrates a clear conflict of visions, all under the umbrella of the Republican Party. So how do we define the term “Republican?” And how do we distinguish between the so-called “Rockefeller Republicans” versus the “Reagan Republicans?” And which one of these examples best exemplifies the principles of the party? After all, anyone can lay claim to being a Republican, but can they really hold to that title if they do not believe in its core principles? It would be the moral equivalent of a fox in the hen house claiming to be a vegetarian.

To answer these questions, we must first look at the Republican Party Platform (see: www.gop.com/media/2004platform.pdf) which clearly spells out what the Republican Party stands for:

· As the party of Lincoln, we stand for freedom.
· We stand for the freedom of families and individuals to have good schools, good health care, and affordable housing and services.
· We stand for freedom that comes with a good paying job in a growing economy.
· We stand for the freedom and dignity of every human life, in every stage of life.
· We know that freedom is not America’s gift to the world; freedom is the Almighty’s gift to every man, woman, and child in the world. And we stand for a hopeful tomorrow that will come from total and complete victory in the War on Terror.

George Witwer writes:

"I became active in Hoosier politics in the early 1990’s while writing for the Indiana Policy Review, a conservative think tank. At the beginning I ran across Mike Pence, a forceful Republican candidate for Congress who seemed to be a rising star for the Party. Mike loyally attended statewide Republican rallies, and campaigned across the district for other Republicans as well as himself. I was impressed then that this was a man who cared about more than just his own success. He cared about the success of his fellow Republicans and the health of his Party.

Unfortunately, Mike’s back-to-back campaigns for Congress were unsuccessful. In his first run, he came close to upsetting the Democrat incumbent. In a rematch, Mike found his opponent was ready for him. When his opponent had clearly established a significant lead, his Republican campaign advisors convinced him to run negative ads against his opponent rather than positive ads about what he believed in. This was difficult for Mike because Mike, more than most, was running because of his passion for the ideals of the “Republican ‘Party as expressed so well by President Reagan. But his loyalty to his Party convinced him that he should follow the advice of his advisors.

When the election was over, Mike discovered that voters knew him but not what he stood for. He realized that he could have served his Party even better if he had campaigned about his Republican ideals rather than about his opponent’s failures. He wrote “Confessions of a negative Campaigner” to outline his beliefs. This manifesto for running on one’s ideals has served him and many other candidates well ever since.

In Mike’s “wilderness period” which followed his Congressional runs, Mike was focused on serving as President of the Indiana Policy Review, followed by his career as a radio commentator. He laughed at the idea of ever running again for office. During this time, I became a Republican candidate for governor and eventually won the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor. Mike simply cared about my success. But I was not the only Republican he helped. As I campaigned across Indiana, I would frequently run across other Republican candidates who were also benefiting from Mike’s insights. Mike never let up in helping the Party even though he himself saw no personal benefit.

When Mike’s Congressman surprisingly decided to run for governor in 2000, and thus an opening to fill this Congressional seat arose, Mike’s generous help and support of Republicans came back around to his aid. He cruised to victory in the Republican primary and then in the general election.

Now Mike is a rising star in Congress, and has won two reelections by large margins. But even while he could be caught up in his own success, Mike still spends much of the election season helping local and state Republican candidates with their races. He even played an enormously valuable role in the Indiana Republicans winning back the State House in 2004 by going door to door and speaking at rallies for state legislative challengers.

Mike’s loyalty to the Republican Party plays out in everything Mike does. Maybe the best way to understand how Mike balances his commitment to being “a Christian, a Conservative and a Republican, in that order” was when he accepted an invitation to be the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of CPAC in February, 2004.

This was at a time when President Bush had pushed through a prescription drug program that entitled trillions of dollars of unfunded mandates. Mike had been a leading Republican voice against the program, reluctantly opposing the President in 2003. When asked by the media why he opposed the program, he simply said, “because I am a Republican.”

Mike’s articulate opposition to the program made him a conservative hero. Conservatives were angry at the biggest unfunded expansion of the American welfare state in history, especially so because it was pushed through by Republicans. So when he was invited to speak to thousands of conservative activists attending CPAC, he could have decided to tear into the President and the Republican Party. Instead, Mike’s keynote address was a healing message, uniting the party around its core principles to bring it back on course.

Mike never puts his political interests before the Republican Party or his fellow Republicans. He cares deeply about the success of his Party, and understands its vital role in advancing his core beliefs. Mike is guided by the example of Ronald Reagan, who also built the Republican Party while winning elections and advancing his conservative principles. I suppose this is why Mike keeps a statue of President Reagan sitting on his desk in his Congressional office.

Mike is a great Republican because of his abiding commitment to the success of his Party. It is that commitment that enables him to live up to the standard of being “a Christian, a Conservative and a Republican, in that order.”

George Witwer was the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Indiana, in 1996; co-owner, Bluffton News-Banner; senior fellow, Indiana Policy Review; B.A., magna cum laude, philosophy and economics, Amherst College; MBA, marketing and finance, University of Chicago; attends St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Mike Pence is indeed a Christian, Conservative, Republican (In That Order.)

McCain/ Pence: Unapologetically Pro-Life!

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Vice President Mike Pence

"The Son of man came not to be served but to serve" (Matthew 20:28), says the Lord.

Those brothers who are placed in authority over the others are to glory in their office as much as if they were appointed to wash the feet of the brothers; and if they are more disturbed when their office is taken from them than they would be if the service of washing feet were taken from them, then to that extent have they amassed treasures for themselves to the peril of their souls.

St. Francis of Assisi
Admonitions 4

(WANE) Congressman Mike Pence is one of the country's leading conservatives, the group experts say John McCain needs to get in his corner to win the presidency. Pence has also been mentioned in several newspapers across the country as a name that could possibly be on the short list when presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain is selecting a running mate.

"I want to hear him talking about the right to life, the sanctity of marriage, second amendment rights, and lower taxes," said Pence in an exclusive interview with Newschannel 15's Mark Mellinger this week. In fact, Pence offered McCain just that advice in a speech last week, telling McCain, "Embrace the right, and the right will embrace you". His words prompted a phone call from McCain the next day. "I think he received it as advice from a friend," said Pence.

Bishop Chaput Puts Reverend Mother Nancy Pelosi In Her Place. So Where Are His Brother Bishops?

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

My thanks go out to My Domestic Church at:

http://www.mydomesticchurch.com/

What a great sense of humor!

Bishop Chaput and the Reverend Mother Nancy Pelosi Smack Down

Denver archbishop slams Pelosi on Church teachings and abortion

I didn't see this but apparently last Sunday on Meet the Press, Nancy Pelosi tried to portray herself as an amateur theologian and ardent student of the Catholic faith when asked about what the Catholic Church teaches about the beginning of life.

"As an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition . . . St. Augustine said at three months. We don't know. The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose.”

What a moron.

Anyway, Bishop Chaput will have none of it and comes out with a wonderful letter entitled The Separation of Sense and State!

Bishop Chaput has a great sense of sarcasm and wit in his letter and it is a sound and even fun document to read! Here are some of my favorite excepts!

Catholic public leaders inconvenienced by the abortion debate tend to take a hard line in talking about the "separation of Church and state." But their idea of separation often seems to work one way.

I so love this bishop...

"In fact, some officials also seem comfortable in the role of theologian. And that warrants some interest, not as a "political issue, but as a matter of accuracy and justice.

"Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them."

OK, I first heard this being read by Dennis Prager on his radio show today as I went to go pick up my kids from practice. I was smiling so wide and pumping my fist in the air. Very few times during the year am I so delighted by anything I hear on the radio!

But there's more! Bishop Chaput goes on!

"Since Speaker Pelosi has, in her words, studied the issue "for a long time," she must know very well one of the premier works on the subject, Jesuit John Connery's Abortion: The Development of the Roman Catholic Persective (Loyola, 1977). Here's how Connery concludes his study:

"The Christian tradition from the earliest days reveals a firm antiabortion attitude... the Condemnation of abortion did not depend on and was not limited in any way by theories regarding the time of fetal animation. Even during the many centuries when Church penal and penitential practice was based on the theory of delayed animation, the condemnation of abortion was never affected by it. Whatever one would want to hold about the time of animation, or when the fetus became a human being in the strict sense of the term, abortion from the time of conception was considered wrong, and the time of animation was never looked on as a moral dividing line between permissible and impermissible abortion."

And then he totally demolishes Pelosi:

"Abortion kills an unborn, developing human life. It is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it. Catholics who make excuses for it- whether they're famous or not - fool only themselves and abuse the fidelity of those Catholics who do sincerely seek to follow the Gospel and live their Catholic faith."

Some of Bishop Chaput's brother bishops should ask him where he gets his testosterone supplements! The man clearly has the resources and the bravery to defend the faith and lead the faithful in the face of adversity! Well done!

Special Note: I couldn't agree with you more, especially about shipping out some testosterone supplements to some of our other Bishops! We need to be hearing from ALL OF THEM! Great job!

PRO-ABORTION CATHOLICS SHOULD NOT RECEIVE COMMUNION

CLEAR AND UNEQUIVOCAL TEACHING: PRO-ABORTION CATHOLICS SHOULD NOT RECEIVE
COMMUNION

Washington, DC (25 August 2008) – American Life League congratulates
Archbishop Raymond Burke, the newly appointed prefect of the Apostolic
Signatura, for his clear and unequivocal teachings on the need to deny the
Holy Eucharist to those who publicly support abortion.

Archbishop Burke, former archbishop of St. Louis, has made reverence for
the Holy Eucharist a central theme of his role as a shepherd of souls.

"Archbishop Burke's great love and zeal for our Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament compels him to send a clear message: Don't desecrate the Holy
Eucharist by presenting yourself for Communion while persisting in your
support of child murder," said Judie Brown, president of American Life
League. "We are excited to see Archbishop Burke continuing to battle for
the lives of innocent preborn children."

Archbishop Burke spoke to the Italian magazine Radici Christiane last
week, specifically addressing the subject of "Catholic" pro-abortion
politicians who "support abortion, which entails the taking of innocent and
defenseless human lives."

"A person who commits sin in this way," he stated, "should be publicly
admonished in such a way as to not receive Communion until he or she has
reformed his life."

The archbishop then went on to explain that when ministers of Communion
deny the sacrament to public officials who support abortion, "it is not
with the intention of interfering in public life, but rather with the
concern of the spiritual state of the politician or public official who, if
Catholic, should follow the divine law in the public sphere as well."

"We thank Archbishop Burke for his clear teaching in regard to
pro-abortion politicians who call themselves 'Catholic,'" said Brown. "It
is our hope that more Catholic bishops will follow his lead and dispel the
confusion and darkness of the culture of death in which we live. You cannot
be Catholic and 'pro-choice.'"

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the
largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and
is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment
of creation to natural death. For more information or media inquiries,

Barack Hussein Obama's Countdown To African-American Extinction!

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Racist? Who's more racist than Barack Hussein Obama? I can't even imagine a single African-American Christian voting for Barack Hussein Obama. He wants to kill off his own race!

Several years ago, when 17,000 aborted babies were found in a dumpster outside a pathology laboratory in Los, Angeles, California, some 12-15,000 were observed to be black."

--Erma Clardy Craven (deceased)
Social Worker and Civil Rights Leader

Countdown to Extinction

Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion

On average, 1,452 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.

Joseph Biden: Take Heed of Edward Cardinal Egan Statement Regarding Rudy Giuliani Receiving Communion!

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Edward Cardinal Egan Statement Regarding Rudy Giuliani Receiving Communion

Cardinal Egan released a statement today addressing the fact that Rudy Giuliani received Communion at the Papal Mass in New York. This is going to be big news because this is the first time a Cardinal, let alone a bishop, has addressed a pro-abortion Catholic politician receiving Communion since Archbishop Burke publically stated that he would deny John Kerry Communion should he present himself in his diocese.

Below is the media release we are sending out praising Cardinal Egan for defending the Eucharist. I invite each of you to join us in thanking Cardinal Egan for standing up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 28, 2008

The following is a statement issued by Edward Cardinal Egan:

“ The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God. Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind. Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion. I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York, and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding.”

Joseph Biden: Supreme Knight of Columbus, "It's time we stop accomodating pro-abortion politicians...!"

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Supreme Knight of Columbus Calls For A Long Overdue Change on Abortion

Knights of Columbus: 230,000 members!

Supreme Knight of Columbus Calls for Real "Change" on Abortion and Catholic Revolt against Obama Nation

"It's time we stop accommodating pro-abortion politicians, and it's time we start demanding that they accommodate us."

By Peter J. Smith

QUEBEC CITY, Canada, August 7, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - With an electrifying speech from the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus on Tuesday, the Catholic fraternal organization has begun mobilizing its members for one of the most ambitious political operations since Roe v. Wade: liberating the Catholic vote from pro-abortion politicians.

Supreme Knight Carl Anderson addressed the 126th annual convention of the Knights of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization, in Quebec City and pledged the Knights to fight abortion promoting politicians, who buy Catholic votes with their stand on other issues.

"We have heard a great deal this year about the need for change," said Anderson in a clear reference to the mantra of Barack Obama, the presumptive pro-abortion nominee of the Democratic Party. "But at the same time we are told that one thing cannot change - namely, the abortion regime of Roe vs. Wade."

"It is time that we demand real change, and real change means the end of Roe vs. Wade," he said.

In contrast to other Catholic social justice issues like poverty and the death penalty, Anderson asked delegates, "What political issue could possibly outweigh this human devastation" of nearly 50 million abortion deaths in the US since 1973?

"The answer, of course, is that there is none," Anderson said.

He added, "Abortion is different. Abortion is the killing of the innocent on a massive scale."

"It is time to put away the arguments of political spin masters that only serve to justify abortion killing."

Anderson then committed the Knights to "end the political manipulation of Catholic voters by abortion advocates," whom he accused of entangling "Catholic people with abortion killing."

"It is time to stop creating excuses for pro-abortion candidates. Catholics should no longer be asked to be partners in the abortion regime by voting for politicians who support abortion."

"We will never succeed in building a culture of life if we continue to vote for politicians who defend and support a culture of death," said Anderson to thunderous applause from the assembly. "It is time that Catholics shine a bright line of separation between themselves and all those politicians of every political party who defend the abortion regime of Roe vs. Wade."

The Knights of Columbus speech comes at a critical time in this election year, especially with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once again justifying her advocacy of abortion and same-sex "marriage" while publicly describing herself as a "faithful Catholic," despite the jarring juxtaposition.

In 2006, Pelosi and other pro-abortion leaders of the Democratic Party regained power in Congress by running a handful of pro-life Democrats and wooing back Catholic voters who supported George Bush on abortion and other social issues in 2004. However, Anderson says that this election cycle the Knights are determined to send both Democrats and Republicans this message: the pro-life vote is a Catholic vote and abortion advocates need not apply.

"Imagine if this year millions of Catholic voters simply said 'no' - 'no' to every candidate of every political party who supports abortion," he declared. "It's time we stop accommodating pro-abortion politicians, and it's time we start demanding that they accommodate us."

Joseph Biden: Voting For Pro-Abortion Catholics Is "Evil" Kansas Bishops Say

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Voting For Pro-Abortion Candidates Is "Evil" Kansas Bishops Say

Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- The Catholic bishops in Kansas have released a new voter's guide that makes it clear supporting a candidate who favors legal abortions is "evil." In the joint document, they say Catholic voters would "commit moral evil" by backing candidates who support abortion, euthanasia or embryonic research.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City and Bishops Ronald Gilmore of Dodge City, Paul Coakley of Salina, and Michael Jackels of Wichita joined together to endorse the document.

They lay out a very clear argument against abortion and how voting for pro-abortion candidates promotes the violation of Church teaching.

Despite the motives voters may have for supporting pro-abortion candidates, acts that "involve doing evil" such as "elective abortion, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, the destruction of embryonic human beings in stem cell research, and human cloning" must be opposed.

"Such acts are judged to be intrinsically evil, that is, evil in and of themselves regardless of our motives or the circumstances. They constitute an attack against innocent human life," they say.

"In light of the above we would commit moral evil if we were to vote for a candidate who takes a permissive stand on those actions that are intrinsically evil when there is a morally-acceptable alternative," they explain.

Catholic voters who support pro-abortion candidates like Barack Obama often justify their decision by saying the candidate is in step with Catholic on other political issues.

The Kansas bishops address that and seem to support voting for the anti-abortion candidate because he supports taking fewer lives than the pro-abortion candidate.

"So when there is no choice of a candidate that avoids supporting intrinsically evil actions, especially elective abortion, we should vote in such a way as to allow the least harm to innocent human life and dignity," the bishops say.

"We would not be acting immorally therefore if we were to vote for a candidate who is not totally acceptable in order to defeat one who poses an even greater threat to human life and dignity," they conclude.

'Barack Hussein Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court on Grounds he is Constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency'

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Talk about being "Above my Pay Grade!" Why has it taken so long for someone to do something about this?

TexasDarlin has a post up that she has received word that that ALL MEDIA were asked to report to the U.S. District Courthouse in Philadelphia this afternoon - Case #08-CV-4083. (I'm willing to bet that no one from the MSM showed up).

The suit has been filed at:

US District Court, Eastern District of PA
601 Market Street
Philadelphia, PA 19106-1797
Ph: 215-597-7704

The motion will be for an emergency temporary restraining order prohibiting Obama from running for president, and enjoining the DNC from nominating Obama as the Democratic presidential candidate.

According to by Jeff Schreiber at America's Right.com:

A prominent Philadelphia attorney and Hillary Clinton supporter filed suit this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States.

Phillip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. According to Berg, he filed the suit--just days before the DNC is to hold its nominating convention in Denver--for the health of the Democratic Party.

"I filed this action at this time," Berg stated, "to avoid the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated.".

Berg cited a number of unanswered questions regarding the Illinois senator's background, and in today's lawsuit maintained that Sen. Obama is not a naturalized U.S. citizen or that, if he ever was, he lost his citizenship when he was adopted in Indonesia. Berg also cites what he calls "dual loyalties" due to his citizenship and ties with Kenya and Indonesia.

Even if Sen. Obama can prove his U.S. citizenship, Berg stated, citing the senator's use of a birth certificate from the state of Hawaii verified as a forgery by three independent document forensic experts, the issue of "multi-citizenship with responsibilities owed to and allegiance to other countries" remains on the table.

In the lawsuit, Berg states that Sen. Obama was born in Kenya, and not in Hawaii as the senator maintains. Before giving birth, according to the lawsuit, Obama's mother traveled to Kenya with his father but was prevented from flying back to Hawaii because of the late stage of her pregnancy, "apparently a normal restriction to avoid births during a flight." As Sen. Obama's own paternal grandmother, half-brother and half-sister have also claimed, Berg maintains that Stanley Ann Dunham--Obama's mother--gave birth to little Barack in Kenya and subsequently flew to Hawaii to register the birth.

"If" this isn't all some kind of hoax or a simple case of the Obama campaign not having provided the correct information or certificate, or there's some other legitimate explanation, all hell is about to break out in the Obama campaign and Hillary Clinton will have pulled off a hell of a coup!

Update; Factcheck.org (owned by The Annenberg Foundation) has a new birth certificate story. As Texasdarlin suggests in her post, this is interesting timing since Obama has just returned from Hawaii. Indeed, what a coincidence that it's today!

Savvy Business Shopper

Trucking Companies Can Move Heavier and Bulkier Freight

Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Mie-Yun Lee

Small package delivery services such as United Parcel Service (UPS) are not well equipped to handle especially heavy or bulky deliveries.

For these items, businesses may want to consider using a less than truckload (LTL) carrier. These companies specialize in shipping items that weigh between 600 and 1,000 pounds, and can be relied on for packages up to 10,000 pounds.

The LTL market is very competitive, with profitability largely dependent on delivery efficiency. As a result, LTL carriers typically operate through a hub system. An LTL carrier picks up packages from multiple customers, transports these items to a local terminal, and then consolidates goods traveling the same route.

Many LTL carriers serve specific geographic regions, which increases their chance of conveying full loads. If a shipment is sent to a location outside a carrier's normal service area, the trucking company will arrange to transfer the shipment from the edge of its service area to another LTL for final delivery. This practice is called interlining.

With so many different LTL carriers, it can be difficult to know which ones to choose. Your first consideration should be the delivery schedule and the number of times the package will be interlined. Longer shipping times and more interlining often suggest that a shipper cannot efficiently deliver your shipment. This may result in higher costs, and creates more opportunities for something to go wrong during interline transfers.

A second statistic to consider is on-time delivery. This indicates how often a firm meets its declared delivery schedule.

A good firm will typically quote on-time delivery rates in the mid to high nineties.

A final area to examine is the claims/damage ratio. This ratio measures the percentage of revenue paid out in claims for problems caused by loss, damage or theft. The industry average is 1.25-1.4 percent. You should use a company with a similar or lower ratio.

Determining delivery charges for LTL shipments is much more complex than for small packages. In addition to the weight of the shipment and the distance it must travel, you must also specify a shipping classification.

Shipments are classified on a scale from 50 to 500, according to a package's density, value, fragility and storage requirements, with higher numerical ratings indicating higher per pound transportation costs.

To learn the class of your shipment, you can consult an LTL carrier or you can purchase the National Motor Freight Classification listing through the American Trucking Association (703/838-1700).

The final cost will also include accessorial charges. These are extra charges for services such as storage, contacting the recipient or delivery to companies without loading docks.

Another option is to use a logistics-management company. These companies place shipments and negotiate discounts based on the total shipping volume of their client base.

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

© 2008 WorldNetDaily

The title page to Barack Obama's response to Jerome Corsi's "The Obama Nation"
With the wreck of John Kerry's "swiftboated" 2004 campaign in his rearview mirror, Barack Obama and his surrogates are wasting no time mounting a counterattack against WND staff writer and columnist Jerome Corsi, the co-author of the Swift Boat Veteran's for Truth's "Unfit for Command" and the author of current No. 1 New York Times best-seller, "The Obama Nation."

Obama advisers have been tracking Corsi's media appearances, quickly telephoning producers to react to the book's charges, and last night, the Democratic presidential candidate's campaign issued a 40-page response to the book.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor accompanied the release with a shot at Corsi, calling him a "discredited liar who is peddling another piece of garbage to continue the Bush-Cheney politics he helped perpetuate four years ago."

"His is just one of what will likely be many more lie-filled books rushed to print this election cycle, which are cobbled together from debunked Internet sources to make money and advance a partisan agenda," the spokesman said. "We will respond to these smears forcefully with all means at our disposal."

"The Obama Nation" is ranked No. 1 among all books at Amazon.com and will debut at No. 1 on the New York Times non-fiction best-seller list next week. The book already has secured the Times' top spot for the following week, as the Democratic National Convention gets under way.

St. Francis of Assisi Regarding "Just War"

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

"The minister general [St. Bonaventure] said to us: Here are some anecdotes that Brother Illuminato who accompanied St. Francis on his visit to the sultan of Egypt told us:

...The same sultan submitted this problem to him: "Your Lord taught in his gospels that evil must not be repaid with evil, that you should not refuse your cloak to anyone who wants to take your tunic, etc. (Mt 5,40): in that case, Christians should not invade our land?" - "It seems," Blessed Francis answered, "That you have not read the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ completely. In another place we read: if your eye causes you sin, tear it out and throw it away (Mt 5 , 29). Here he wanted to teach us that every man, however dear and close he is to us, and even if he is precious to us as the apple of our eye, must be repulsed, pulled out, expelled if he seeks to turn us aside from the faith and love of our God. That is why it is just that Christians invade the land you inhabit, for you blaspheme the name of Christ and alienate everyone you can from his worship. But if you were to recognize, confess, and adore the Creator and Redeemer, Christians would love you as themselves."

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

NASSTRAC Shippers Speak up on Biggest Concerns

(Please note that although this report was submitted concerning Muncie, Indiana, the demographics are nearly identical to those of Richmond, Indiana)

A soft economy, increasing global competition, major concerns for infrastructure and congestion. These are just a few of the biggest challenges that have a direct impact on U.S. transportation. But according to the 2008 NASSTRAC Member Survey, currently there are five primary issues that are top-of-mind with shippers:

Transportation costs. Along with death and taxes, transportation buyers can be sure that rising transportation costs are a guarantee in life. Citing the obvious factors that include rising fuel costs, approximately 50 percent claim increasing transportation costs to be of major concern. Many shippers continue to explore opportunities in such practices as pool consolidation, cross-docking and mode/carrier selection as part of the solution.
Globalization. With the growth of international trade, the globalization of production and offshoring, international transportation systems have been under increasing pressures to support increasing demands. In fact, 35.3 percent of respondents say that globalization is one of their biggest concerns. Expanding their capabilities via outsourcing to global third-party logistics providers is one way that shippers are ensuring that they can navigate through the challenges of managing transportation in a global marketplace.

Fuel surcharges. The common practice of charging fuel surcharges is of significant concern for shippers. In fact, more than 35 percent of respondents list this as one of their biggest concerns. Most agree that, when it comes to rising fuel costs, there will be no end in sight.

Market conditions. Nearly 29.5 percent of shippers cite current market conditions on their top list of concerns. With the goal of a growing economy comes the requirement of a transportation system that can move people, goods and services quickly and efficiently. To meet this challenge, each transport sector must work effectively both by itself and as part of a larger, interconnected whole. Technologies that increase the speed, reliability and cost-effectiveness of the transportation sector also will increase the economy's competitiveness and ability to create jobs. Unfortunately, one of the greatest challenges we face today is to rehabilitate and properly maintain the huge stock of infrastructure facilities already in place. Providing a world-class transportation sector will require the United States to meet the challenges posed both by increased congestion in many parts of the transportation system and by the need to rebuild and maintain a public capital stock valued at more than $2.4 trillion.

Customer demands. Lastly, 26.5 percent of respondents claim that the demands of the marketplace are top of mind for them. This entails demands to maintain costs of materials and/or product landed costs, ensuring efficiencies in the supply chain, quality service and ultimate delivery of a quality product, on-time. But a myriad of challenges create havoc for shippers in meeting the stringent demands of customers, including capacity challenges, infrastructure and congestion, to name a few.

So what can shippers do to meet these types of concerns head-on? Stay active with industry associations such as NASSTRAC, and leverage your involvement and advocacy as these organizations lobby on behalf of shippers for such key issues as hours of service, highway-related legislation, cross-border and security issues, and the end of collective rate-making. In addition, make sure to keep "carrying the torch" to the boardroom, convincing top management of the strategic value of transportation and logistics in any company — ultimately gaining adequate budget and resources to make it all happen.

Barack Hussein Obama: Going To Campaign In All 57 States?

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Roman Catholic Blog

Rush Limbaugh Transcript that literally made my flesh crawl:

RUSH: Hey, folks, you want to tweak the Drive-By Media with me right now? Want to participate in tweaking the Drive-By Media? You are aware, probably, that Barack Obama lost his bearings recently and said that he was going to campaign in all 57 states. You heard this? And everybody chalked it up to, "Well, he's tired." You know, this is a Dan Quayle moment. I mean, Dan Quayle goes out there and misspells potato, and we still get jokes about it. Barack Obama says he's gonna go out and campaign in 57 states, he was just tired, you know, it's been such a long campaign, he's been so many places, he probably thinks there are 57 states. Well, I have here a printout from a website called the International Humanist and Ethical Union. And here is how the second paragraph of an article on that website begins. "Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states presented a resolution to the United Nations commission on human rights called combating --" yes, H.R., get ready for the phone calls up there.

We're participating here in a tweak of the media. Obama said he's going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states. There are 57 Islamic states. "Every year from 1999 to 2005, the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states," this is from the International Humanist and Ethical Union. And the title of the piece here is, "How the Islamic states dominate the UN human rights council," and there are 57 of them. So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen? Obama's 57 states, not just a simple gaffe. He might have been thinking of the 57 Islamic states when he said he was going to campaign in all 57 states. (laughing) Can't wait 'til the Drive-Bys hear about this.

Richmond Catholic Community Charismatic Prayer Group Meeting August 17th

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

The Richmond Catholic Community Charismatic Prayer Group will be meeting from 7:00-9:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 17th in the basement of St. Mary's Church in Richmond, IN

We were honored last month to have as visitors the parents of Fr. Gregory Bramlage who happened to be traveling through town that day. As always, it was a pleasure to see them and to share Jesus with them once again.

This card just came in from Fr. Todd today:

Greetings from St. Meinrad! Sabbaticals are great! Chris- I found one copy of the enclosed at the bookstore here (An Introduction to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal by John and Therese Boucher). It was printed and updated in 2004. I thought I would order copies for all who were participating in the prayer group. You folks are never out of your pastor's thoughts!

Call Your Congressman Today And Tell Them To Support Congressman Mike Pence

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Driven by the relentless rise in fuel costs, American businesses spent a record $1.4 trillion on logistics last year. That was equal to 10.1 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, a percentage not equaled since 2000.

Effective transportation management doesn't just reduce freight cost, it also has a broad affect on overall supply chain performance, inventory efficiency and warehouse productivity.

All this is for naught as long as Congress keeps their heads buried in the sand and continues to worry more about their own re-election than they do for the financial stability of our nation and its people. Without leadership at the helm, America will continue its downward spiral, eventually leading us into a world-wide depression.

Please support Congressman Mike Pence as he leads the Congressional Protest on Capitol Hill to pull America out of its Fuel Crisis. Call your Congressman today and let them know you want them to come back off their 5 week vacation and give us an "Up or Down Vote" right now! The American people deserve nothing less from their elected officials!

CONGRESSMAN MIKE PENCE RETURNS TO CAPITOL HILL AS PROTEST CONTINUES

PENCE RETURNS TO CAPITOL HILL AFTER ENERGY TOWN HALL MEETINGS IN INDIANA AS PROTEST CONTINUES

"From the floor of Congress, to the farm fields of Indiana, I have heard from everyday Americans and they are with us...they think this Congress should go back to work."

WASHINGTON, DC--After hosting two days of energy town hall meetings in Indiana, U.S. Congressman Mike Pence returned to Washington today to continue the floor protest he helped begin one week ago to urge Speaker Nancy Pelosi to call a special session of Congress to vote on an energy bill that allows more drilling. Pence's statement follows:

"One week ago, 50 House Republicans took this Hill on behalf of the right of every American to enjoy energy independence. Thanks to the leadership of John Boehner and Roy Blunt and thanks to the sacrifice being made by dozens of members of Congress and their families, we have held this Hill for one week. But still, there is no sign of Speaker Nancy Pelosi or any House Democrats in the People's House.

"Republicans in Congress have taken this stand on Capitol Hill and across the nation in town halls and coffee shops to protest the fact that Congress took a five-week paid vacation without ever taking a vote on giving the American people more access to American oil. From the floor of Congress, to the farm fields of Indiana, I have heard from everyday Americans and they are with us...they think this Congress should go back to work immediately and pass energy legislation that allows more drilling into our domestic resources.

"We will stand our ground. We will take our case to the American people and we will not relent until the Speaker of the House calls Congress back into session and allows a vote on a comprehensive energy bill that includes more drilling."

Special Note:

According to one source, more than 96 percent of all goods in this country are delivered by truck.

Still another report claims the transportation industry is in decline, with sales of medium and heavy trucks 23 percent lower in May 2001 than the previous year, with highway vehicle miles down nearly 1 percent in March 2001 compared with March 2000. And while employment in vehicle and equipment manufacturing declined 1.6 percent from April to May 2001, employment in transportation and transportation-related industries increased slightly.

Sorting through the numbers may or may not produce evidence to support a given viewpoint, but statistical data may not even be necessary to understand the importance of the trucking industry. Or, to quote from the conventional wisdom of bumper stickers: "If you bought it, a truck brought it."

Still, despite the fundamental necessity of the industry – no one will argue how crucial it is to get our stuff from point A to point B – the industry is not without its challenges, the chief of which seems to be the cost of a trucking company to stay in business.

The numbers of companies going out of business tell the story. With over 900 trucking companies going "belly-up" since January 1, 2008, is it any wonder the price of food is skyrocketing in this country? And we haven't even begun to see the tip of the iceburg yet!

Logisource

"RENEWING THE AMERICAN DREAM"

Greater Charlotte Biz

By: Chris Jensen

http://www.greatercharlottebiz.com/article.asp?id=345Logisource

Among the myriad skills required to survive and thrive in today’s dynamic transportation industry, the most important skill is listening, according to Jim Lloyd, president of Logisource, Inc., a company that aims to become the most personable and passionate transportation logistics superstore.

What Logisource personnel hear from customers provides the company with the best opportunities to develop marketable services and products. Lloyd explains: “First the customer tells us: ‘It would be great if we could do this…’ And we say: ‘Maybe we can.’ Then we go back and brainstorm. We strategize to come up with a way to solve that customer’s dilemma. And we try to solve it in a way that will save the customer money and also be marketable for any other customer who has a similar need.”

What sets Logisource apart in today’s competitive landscape, according to Lloyd, is that there are a lot of people in the business who have added “logistics” to their company name, but for whom logistics is not the core business. In most cases, the logistics function serves to provide a better return on the core business – to fill the trucks or warehouses that provide the main source of income, for example.

“We’re different,” says Lloyd. “We’re not a carrier or warehousing company. We bring truly unbiased solutions to the table. Because we don’t have to do business in only one segment of the industry, we can find the customer the very best price in the field.” Logisource is able to offer better-than-market prices in every segment because the company hasn’t put all of its overhead into any one segment, he says.

Another thing Logisource is not, is a reseller. Lloyd explains: “There are a lot of people who call themselves ‘logistics’ who are really resellers. They have established a rate with a carrier or carriers, and they are simply marking it up and reselling it. So naturally, they are biased toward one or more carriers. That’s not us.”

Logisource began in 1992 when a transportation holding group based in Hilton Head, S.C., decided to create a company to help customers from a logistics standpoint by offering better pricing and more leverage. In 1993, Lloyd and Steve Brown – Lloyd’s partner and executive vice president of Logisource – migrated from the transportation holding group to Logisource. The first thing they did was to move Logisource to Charlotte, to be closer to the customer base they were familiar with.

Charlotte has grown increasingly important as a transportation center in recent years largely because of its geography. Typically, transportation centers crop up where there are significant population centers nearby in any direction that are also serviced by rail, air and major interstates. From a trucking standpoint, Charlotte is within two days of both Chicago and Miami. Charlotte has the added advantage of being close to the water, but not on the water. The disadvantage of being a U.S. port on the Atlantic is that, obviously, there are no rail or truck routes heading east.

Lloyd and Brown had already worked together in the transportation industry for more than 10 years before they started at Logisource, and both had established good reputations in the market. Within seven months the company was operating with a positive cash flow and it has been profitable ever since. In the spring of 1995 they exercised their option to buy the company, and the company remains privately owned today.

During its first 11 years of existence, Logisource has purposely assumed a quiet approach, trying to remain under the radar screen to some extent.

“We wanted to build the infrastructure correctly to support growth,” Lloyd says. “We wanted to build the service segments so that there were enough offerings to potential clients. And we wanted to build the systems to support all that, too.” Lloyd and Brown started with a few individual accounts; then they went to those customers’ vendors and continued to go upstream and downstream to find more customers.

Today Logisource has no debt. In March of this year, the corporate headquarters was moved to a new facility at 700 Matthews-Mint Hill Road – a building that Logisource bought outright.

While Lloyd declines to reveal annual sales figures, he will share that the company experienced a 39 percent growth rate in 2002 – a year in which 7,000 carriers went out of business and the national economy was in a downturn. Logisource also was included in Charlotte Business Journal’s “Fast 50” lists in both 2000 and 2001.

And Logisource is positioned to continue on its steady growth path. Recently, Lloyd and Brown brought on board a new principal of the firm, Mark Andrews, to serve as vice president of sales and marketing. The partners had worked with Andrews about 15 years ago, and they believe Logisource will benefit from Andrews’ many years of experience on the carrier side and with numerous national accounts.

And speaking of growth, Logisource continues to add to its family of companies, subsidiaries and divisions in response to new customer needs.

Logisource, the primary brand identifier, provides third-party U.S. traffic management. Source Transport and Delta Audit are divisions of Logisource. Source Transport provides full-service transportation brokerage services, and Delta Audit Services provides freight payment and freight bill audit services.

Fleet Source, a separate company that was formed in 1998, offers customers dedicated fleet services – in other words, the luxury of a private fleet service without the associated liability. Initially conceived in response to a specific customer’s request, Fleet Source had grown dramatically over the past five years. This company now has a subsidiary, Fleet Source Transportation Services in Sumter, S.C., which provides drivers and equipment to other carriers. Lloyd explains, “We can do the same thing successfully for the carrier that we do successfully for the shipper.”

Not surprisingly, a lot of Source Transport’s work involves travel to and from Mexico, and given the North American Free Trade Agreement and all of its ramifications, Logisource wants to establish itself as an entity in Mexico. To that end, the company had the Logisource name trademarked in Mexico earlier this year, and Lloyd says they plan to open an office in Mexico by the end of this year.

LogiPro was started in 2000 in order to provide third-party Canadian traffic management. Essentially, LogiPro provides the same services as Logisource, but in Canada. LogiPro has two divisions: Azimuth and Zen Cargo. Azimuth is a full-service customs clearinghouse serving both the U.S. and Canada, and Zen Cargo was introduced earlier this year as a Canadian freight-forwarding firm.

The Logisource family also includes Source Trailers, begun in 2002,offering storage and roadworthy trailers.

Today the company employs about 40 people, excluding about 150 drivers who work for Fleet Source. Most of the 40 work at the corporate offices in Matthews. Some work out of the sales offices in Winston-Salem, Philadelphia and Atlanta. LogiPro also has some staff in Montreal, and Fleet Source Transportation Services employs some people at its operations center in Sumter, S.C.

Personnel are carefully chosen. “Because we take it personally, it bothers me when a customer is not successful. And I don’t want that to change,” Lloyd says. “And I want our staff to feel the same way, and they do. It bothers them if we’re not solving the problem. So we’ve added people with expertise in various areas, people who also are passionate about what they do.”

Logisource is poised now for additional growth. “Now we’re ready to go beyond the Southeast,” Lloyd says. “What we do serves people anywhere, and that’s going to take off.”

The company recently initiated some marketing projects designed to help it tell the Logisource story to a broader audience. In three to five years, the partners expect the company to have multiple locations in cities such as Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago and Columbus.

“It will help our customers – and us – to have a local presence,” Lloyd explains. “And having offices in multiple time zones will allow us to extend the hours of service available to all of our customers.”

Logisource expects to expand its presence in Canada and Mexico as well, based on the belief that in 15 years the U.S., Canada and Mexico will be more like the European Union—with all three sharing one currency.

Some things about Logisource, however, are unlikely to change. “With us, the customer is always in charge, not us. This is different from the other so-called logistics providers,” Lloyd says. “If the customer tells us not to use a certain carrier for whatever reason, that’s fine with us. Our unbiased approach and our leverage across all segments of the industry are what drive our growth in all areas.”

To further underscore the advantage that Logisource offers businesses, Lloyd explains: “Typically, we can walk into anybody’s organization, sight unseen, and save them 20 to 30 percent of their transportation costs. That’s not an indictment of their current situation. They are working within their own four walls, and they may have reduced their costs four to five percent and feel like they are doing well. But because they don’t see other industries, they aren’t aware of other tools and other modes that might be available to them. And often, they simply don’t have the leverage that we have.”

In summary, why is it so important for a transportation company to focus so much energy on listening carefully to its customers? Because, as Lloyd says, a truck is not a truck is not a truck. He likens a truck to a tool, for example: a screwdriver.

He explains: “We can come in with the entire toolbox and help the customer decide which screwdriver to use. Or we can do a specific job with the right screwdriver. Or we can hand the customer the screwdriver and let them do the job themselves. We’re always developing new tools for our toolbox, and that is very exciting for us.”
