PENCE STATEMENT ON OBAMA ORDER TO FUND ABORTION PROVIDERS OVERSEAS
WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Congressman Mike Pence released the following
statement on President Barack Obama's executive order to reverse the
so-called "Mexico City policy," which prohibited U.S. tax dollars from
funding abortion providers overseas:
"It is morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of
pro-life Americans to promote abortion around the world. I am profoundly
disappointed that one of the first executive decisions of the Obama
Administration would be to make American foreign aid available to
organizations that perform or promote abortion as a means of birth
control. The reversal of the longstanding 'Mexico City' policy by the
Obama Administration is a disservice to legions of pro-life Americans
and to unborn generations around the globe.
"By opening up the possibility for U.S. tax dollars to go to abortion
providers abroad, President Obama has set a course that goes in a
direction that is antithetical to the sacred beliefs of millions of
Americans who treasure the right to life. I urge our new president to
reconsider this executive order and reinstate the historic protections
that have been enshrined in American foreign aid for most of the past
quarter century."
